A sterling silver, pocket lighter with a very unusual finish made by the best known luxury retailer of smoking accessories; Dunhill. Alfred Dunhill took over his father's saddlery business in London,Henry's, and turned it into one of the finest destinations for accessories for the modern gentleman. Initially developing a unique line of motoring accessories, as this form of transport rapidly developed, he later went on to make pipes, lighters and anything else the modern gentleman traveller would need. This is a petrol lighter, for which the fluids still available to purchase, and easy to find. The lighter is in very good condition. Made in Switzerland, where Dunhill went on to make a number of their finer grade lighters at the 'La Nationale' factory. The piece dates to the 1940's, and the patent was filled in 1938 for this model. The lighter is in excellent condition and has an original, early Dunhill black and red, Art Deco card box that accompanies it.
